Peirce Mill Open House Schedule, Summer 2009

Saturday, May 30, 10 a.m.
Walking Town tour of Peirce Mill and sites associated with the Peirce Plantation. Hear the little-known story of the Peirce/Shoemaker clan, Quaker entrepreneurs who had one of the largest farms in Washington at the time of the Civil War. See "Cloverdale," the elegant family homestead, and view the mill restoration-in-progress. Co-sponsored with Cultural Tourism DC.

Saturday, June 13 (continuing second and fourth Saturdays, through September), Noon-2 p.m.
Open house at Peirce Mill. Take a walk through the mill to learn about the 10-year restoration, which will soon have the waterwheel turning and producing flour and corn meal again. Led by Friends of Peirce Mill volunteers.

Saturdays and Sundays (May to September), 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Peirce Barn (across the parking lot from the mill), with its exhibit on the history of milling along Rock Creek, is open and staffed by a National Park Service ranger. See www.nps.gov/rocr/ for details on ranger-led programs.
